This is particularly useful if you want the flexibility of online study, if you want to limit travel costs, or if you plan to teach English online as you’ll learn more about the digital tools needed
FACE 2 FACE

Your teaching practice will be in a classroom with groups of learners and observed by your trainer. Your training sessions will be face-to-face or a combination with online study.
This is especially suitable if you prefer studying face-to-face, if you only want to teach face-to-face classes, or if you want to travel to take your CELTA in a particular place.
MIXED MODE ie a combination of Face2Face and Online
Your training will be may be a blend of online and face-to-face.
Your teaching practice will include face-to-face lessons in a classroom and lessons in an online learning environment. Your teaching practice will be with groups of learners and observed by your trainer.
This is particularly good if you want to get experience of both online and face-to-face teaching.

  • Consultation

Additionally trainees will need to dedicate a minimum of 80 hours for the required reading, research, pre- and post-session tasks, assignments and lesson preparation.

NB It is very useful if you can have access to e-mail and the internet for all courses and essential for the CELTA course online.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS
As with all CELTA centres, the Elh teacher training centre will run courses for which there is sufficient student intake.
The closing date for applications is 8 weeks before the course start date. We may be able to accept late entry candidates but only if there are spaces available and if there is sufficient time to assess a candidate's suitability for the course.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE COURSE
  • See how to apply for the CELTA course
  • See the CELTA dates, the CELTA fees an the possible timetables of CELTA courses.
  • Read the CELTA terms and conditions and the Terms and Conditions for Online Bookings.
  • Complete the CELTA Application Form and the pre interview task. Select as many dates as are possible for you. Early interviews are offered to candidates who are able to select two or more dates.
  • Pay the CELTA Application Fee.

COURSE FEE
The CELTA course fee is £1,450 inclusive of the Cambridge Assessment English fee. Discounts are available for early payment.

WHAT TO PAY AND WHEN
1. Pay an application fee of £100 within 24hrs of completing your application form.
2. Pay the course fee of £1,450 or discounted fee after you have been offered a place of the course and within the due date as shown on your offer and/or invoice.

ADDITIONAL EXPENSES
A £20 refundable deposit may be required to join the CELTA library. This entitles trainees to borrow books and resources from our well-stocked ELT library during the course.

It is also a good idea to buy some books for reference if you wish. See the recommended book list for details.

HOW WE ASSESS CANDIDATES SUITABILITY  AND HOW WE CONDUCT INTERVIEWS
We assess candidates based on their application. It is important that you submit the CELTA application form and the pre interview task when you apply.
If your application is successful we will call you in to interview. Interviews will be held virtually via Zoom or, if Covid permits, may be conducted face2face at our premises in Central Milton Keynes.

IF A CANDIDATE IS NOT OFFERED AN INTERVIEW
If your application is unsuccessful you will not be called to interview.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE INTERVIEW
After your interview we will email you with our offer. This may be an unconditional offer or a conditional offer.
  • An unconditional offer is made to candidates who at interview are considered to be strong enough to attend the type/s of CELTA course/s they have selected on the start date/s they have selected.
  • A conditional offer will usually be made to candidates who are required to fulfil certain conditions before they can join the CELTA course.
Following your interview you will need to pay the full fees to confirm your place on the course and receive the CELTA preparation pack so you can start to prepare for the course.

WHY MIGHT A CANDIDATE RECEIVE A CONDITIONAL OFFER?
If you receive a conditional offer you will need to fulfil the conditions described in your offer before you can join the CELTA. Here are some examples why we may issue a conditional offer:
  • Candidate A has chosen a mixed mode CELTA but their knowledge of IT is too limited to be able to deal with preparing and teaching lessons online. Our conditional offer may require this candidate to either join a face2face course instead of a mixed mode or to improve their IT skills and then join a mixed mode course
  • Candidate B has chosen a full time course but during their interview they told us that they would not be able to attend for 3 days of the course. Our conditional offer may require this candidate to either change their plans so that they don't miss these 3 days or to select a different course, on an alternative start date, during which they will not miss any days.
  • Candidate 3 is an overseas national residing outside the UK. They have chosen a face2face course but they do not have the required visa to be able to study in the UK. Our conditional offer may require this candidate to either apply for a visa which will allow them to study in the UK or to join a fully online course which they can attend from anywhere in the world.

REFUNDS, CHANGES AND WITHDRAWALS
