HOW ELH STAFF WORK

Much has changed since Covid and we want to ensure that students and staff can feel safe at ELH. English Language House will always follow the government guidelines to maximise the safety of everyone who comes to our lessons.

HOW WE WORK AT ELH

FACE2FACE - LIVE ONLINE - HYBRID

We use Zoom to run live online lessons. These lessons may be One2One, or Small Group lessons and may be for adult students or under18s. We can also use Skype for live online One2One lessons if students are unable to access Zoom.

Staff who join ELH will get:
  • their own personal ELH Gmail address
  • their own ELH GoogleDrive
  • access to teaching resources and material
  • added to the staff WhatsApp Group
Students who join our live online lessons will get one of more of the following, where possible:
  • a personal Elh Gmail address
  • an Elh group WhatsApp with their name
  • access to the elh googledrive
  • access to digital learning material
For all email communication Staff should communicate with students and each other using their ELH Gmail Addresses and never their personal emails.

HOW WE COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER

For instant messaging staff should use the WhatsApp Group Account "Elh all staff" to communicate with each other. Do not share this WhatsApp Group with anyone outside ELH and do not share the WhatApp Group contact details with students.
Only staff who have an ELH mobile phone number (ie our DOA, Mihaela, who has the "Elh Office Mob", our Director ELH, Tatiana, who has the emergency ELH mobile "ElhMob2" and our DOA/Examinations Officer, Clare who has the "ElhMob3"), can contact students via mobile or WhatsApp.

Use the WhatsApp  "Elh all staff" group account to communicate with all staff and receive an immediate response.

For email communication, students email us on info@englishlanguagehouse.co.uk

This is the email for the ELH Office which deals with all student enquiries, timetabling of lessons, changes, request etc.
Mihaela or Tatiana at the ELH office, will pick up and respond to students' emails when these are sent to

info@englishlanguagehouse.co.uk and there will be no delay in responding and dealing with an enquiry.

Other email addresses may be used from time to time but these are for internal use only and emails sent there may not be picked up by Mihaela at the ELH office so there may often be a delay in responding if students use these.

FACE2FACE

We restarted our face2face group lessons in May 2021. Students can see now join our face2face lessons. However if there is another rise in covid infections and there is another lockdown, or if students and staff do not feel safe, we will move lessons onto an online platform and students can attend live online or hybrid lessons.

Since September 2020 the way we offer our face2face lessons has changed. The days and times of group lessons has changed, and we have reduced the number of students who can attend face2face in each classroom. All this is to make sure that we follow government guidelines and ensure that all our students and staff feel safe when they come to Elh.

HOW WE WILL ENSURE STUDENTS AND STAFF FEEL SAFE AT ELH:
Students and staff will need to complete a location and health declaration form before they can come to ELH.
Students arriving into the UK from certain countries may need to self isolate for 14 days before they can start their face2face lessons. During this time they can attend hybrid lessons so they do not miss any part of their course.
Please keep a close eye on the list of the countries from where you can travel to the UK and may not need to self-isolate when you arrive. This list changes so please check it before you travel. If you arrive to the UK from a country that is not on this list you will need to self isolate for 14 days. After the 14 days and providing you do not have any covid symptoms, you must complete and sign a student location and health declaration form before you can start your face2face lessons.
If you have symptoms you MUST NOT come to Elh and you should get tested. You can see what you need to do here.
While you are self-isolating or if you need to wait for the results of a covid test before you can attend face2face lessons, you can attend hybrid lessons.
WHEN STUDENTS ARRIVE AT ELH
  • Students will need to wear a face mask when they arrive for face2face lessons and before they enter the building.
  • Tables and chairs for students in classrooms will be placed in accordance to social distancing rules.
  • Teachers and Elh staff will maintain social distancing and will wear a mask and/or face shield visor when they speak to students and each other.
  • We will not use handouts or photocopies during lessons. Students will either be asked to buy their own coursebook for their course or will be sent worksheets and study material digitally ie by email, googledrive, padlet, slack etc
  • Study bubbles will be created so that students will study together in the same groups.
  • Students' arrival and departure time/s will be staggered to ensure students stay in their bubbles and to reduce contact between students from different study bubbles.
  • Students will use digital platforms and apps for group work, pair work, collaborative activities and homework.
WHAT WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO DO EACH DAY:
  • Maintain social distancing at all times.
  • Arrive and leave your classroom at your allocated time.
  • Bring your own hand sanitiser with you and use this throughout the day.
  • Wear a mask when you arrive and leave and during your lesson if necessary.
  • Wear gloves if this is necessary.
  • Wash your hands after you use the public toilets in the building.
  • Bring a pack of sanitiser wipes with you and use these to wipe your desk and/or chair before and after you use it.
  • Bring a pack of tissues with you and use these where necessary ie if you need to sneeze, to push buttons in the lift, open doors using door handles etc
  • Do not share pens, paper, books, tissues etc with others.
  • Do not come to class if you have any covid symptoms eg a cold or a sniffle, a sore throat, a temperature etc, even if you do not think this is Covid.
  • Do not enter the ELH Office without an appointment.
NOTE THAT: There will be hand sanitisers in each room at ELH and throughout the building but it is best if you bring your own since then you are sure about what you are using and how safe this is for you.
WHAT TEACHERS AND STAFF WILL DO EACH DAY
  • Teachers will have their own room to use each day.
  • They will wear and a mask and a face shield visor when students arrive and leave the class.
  • They will maintain social distancing during lessons and may teach smaller groups of students in their class.
  • They will have their own hand sanitiser and sanitiser sprays for use in each classroom as required.
  • They will share resources and material for lessons digitally with students; they not hand out books, photocopies, worksheets etc to students during the lesson.
  • Teachers will be part of the study bubbles we create.

Government guidance for full opening: schools
Updated 7 August 2020
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak/guidance-for-full-opening-schools

System of controls

This is the set of actions schools must take. They are grouped into ‘prevention’ and ‘response to any infection’ and are outlined in more detail in the sections below.

Prevention:
1) minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school
2) clean hands thoroughly more often than usual
3) ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach
4) introduce enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often, using standard products such as detergents and bleach
5) minimise contact between individuals and maintain social distancing wherever possible
6) where necessary, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Numbers 1 to 4 must be in place in all schools, all the time.
Number 5 must be properly considered and schools must put in place measures that suit their particular circumstances.
Number 6 applies in specific circumstances.

Response to any infection:
7) engage with the NHS Test and Trace process
8) manage confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) amongst the school community
9) contain any outbreak by following local health protection team advice

Numbers 7 to 9 must be followed in every case where they are relevant.
