RULES FOR UNDER 18s STUDYING AT ENGLISH LANGUAGE HOUSE

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS, PUPILS, AGENTS AND GROUP LEADERS

- English Language House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students and especially those who are under18s and we expect all our staff to share this commitment.
- English Language House has a safeguarding policy and welfare policy which students and staff know to follow to ensure the safety and care of students and especially those who are under 18s.
- Under 18 year olds are considered children under English Law
- All ELH teachers who teach under 18s are DBS checked.
Our Terms and Conditions for students and our Terms and Conditions for online purchases give details of the rules and guidelines that govern the relationship between ELH and students who study with us. They outline the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of both parties and define the framework within which students can access and use the services we provide.
Students, their parents, agents and group leaders must read these and make sure they agree to abide by these terms and conditions before they book an English course, an exam, leisure programmes, airport transfers or homestay accommodation through English Language House.

RULES FOR UNDER 18s
RULES FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE UNDER 18 IN ENGLISH LESSONS
Students who are under 18 must:
- arrive in class on time.
- attend all the lessons they have booked.
- inform ELH about their accommodation ie where they will be living while they are studying at ELH and update us if this changes.
- inform ELH about their travel arrangements to and from school every day ie will they be walking to school, catching the bus, come by car etc and update us if this changes.
- give us details of their emergency contact eg someone who we can contact in case of an emergency and update us if this changes.
- give us details of any health conditions and/or allergies we need to be aware of in case of an emergency eg pregnancy, diabetes, asthma, peanut allergy, allergy to penicillin etc and what needs to happen if there is an emergency eg student carries an EpiPen, has an inhaler, has to go to hospital etc
- inform ELH if they are going to be late for lessons.
- inform ELH if they are going to be absent from class.
- follow our code of conduct.
Students who are under 16 must also:

ELH expects all its students and staff:
Failure to behave correctly may result in disciplinary action being taken and, in serious cases, the student or staff member may be asked to leave English Language House.
ELH expects all its students and staff:
- To respect others.
- To avoid comments and behaviour which could offend.
- To be courteous in speech and conduct.
- To be helpful.
- To respect confidentiality.
- To respect other people’s private lives.
- To respect the property of others.
- To be able to work without being distracted by bad behaviour from others.
- To aim to be on time for lessons.
- To safeguard the interests and well-being of others
- To leave classrooms and schools tidy.
- To be proud of who we are and what we do.

RULES FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE UNDER 18 IN HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION:
English Language House does not provide homestay for under 16 year olds. Students who are 16 and 17 years old cannot be placed in accommodation and share homestay accommodation with students who are 18 years old or older.
Students who are 16 and 17 years old in homestay accommodation must:
- spend time with your host family and use your English to talk to them every day.
- respect your host family in the same way that you do your own family.
- follow the rules of homestay eg regarding curfew, meal times, quiet times, when and how to use the facilities at the house etc
- follow the house rules eg locking the front door when leaving, closing the windows, use of electrical appliances etc
- inform ELH straight away if there is a problem with your homestay.
- inform ELH and your host family if you are going to be late back home.
- be back home by 11:00pm.
- not stay overnight in different accommodation unless their parents have requested this in writing in advance of their arrival date and this arrangement has been approved in writing by ELH.
- be careful not to damage your host family's home or items in the home eg carpet, furniture, plates, glasses etc and if you do damage something please let ELH and your host family know and offer to cover the cost to repair or replace this.
RULES FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE UNDER 18 DURING LEISURE ACTIVITIES:
Students who are 16 and 17 years old and participate in leisure activities must:
- be supervised by an ELH member of staff at all times unless their parent has also joined the same leisure activity and will take responsibility for their child during the day. This must be agreed in writing in advance of the activity
- be punctual and follow the rules regarding safety during the leisure activity.
Students who are under 16 years old and participate in leisure activities must:
- be accompanied to the leisure activity by a parent or over 18 who the student's parents have agreed to act in "loco parentis." This must be agreed in writing in advance of the activity.
- be supervised by an ELH member of staff at all times.
- be punctual and follow the rules regarding safety during the leisure activity.
