WHAT IS A TRINITY SELT?
  • SELT (Secure English Language Tests) are tests introduced by the British Government (Home Office) to test English levels of candidates for their immigration/visa applications.
  • SELTs have a short listening and speaking component intended to ensure applicants have a high enough level of English to be able to live in the UK.

A number of Trinity College London exams are approved and popular SELTs that meet the visa requirements. You can see the full list of approved secure English language tests and test centres here.

A SELT is compulsory for the following visa applications:

Who is the SELT preparation course for?
  • This course is for candidates who need to prepare for a Trinity SELT exam they need for a Home Office visa application in the UK, for an entry application to a UK University, or for work purposes.
  • The preparation course will prepare candidates for the exam but they will need to be the correct level of English to pass this exam. If a candidate is not the correct level a 4 hour preparation course will not help them reach the required level.

What will the SELT preparation course involve?
  • The content of the course will vary depending on the needs of the learners.
  • Prior to the start of the course we will assess your English language level and your skills in Reading, writing, Listening and Speaking.
  • We will then run a course to prepare you for the exam you wish to sit.
  • The course will cover: exam technique, language improvement, familiarization of the SELT exam structure and criteria and preparation for the 1st part of the exam. We will also provide you with the training materials and details guidance on what you will need to do in order to pass the exam.
  • If you are not the level required for the exam we will suggest courses you can do to improve your English before you sit the exam .
  • After your preparation course we can book your Trinity SELT exam for you with an examination centre that is most convenient for you.

What level of English do candidates need to have?
Candidates who join a preparation course must be the required level of English to pass the exam they want to sit. Where a candidate is not the required level we recommend that they attend a course to improve their English before they join the preparation course.
