SUITABILITY TO HOST UNDER 18s

When you agreed to provide homestay accommodation for under 18 the following will apply.

The Children Act 1989 - Declaration Regarding Suitability To Look After Children
The provision of the Children Act of 1989 requires ELH to conduct a DBS check on all its staff.
It also requires accommodation homestay providers (i.e. families/couples etc) to complete the declaration relating to their suitability to provide Homestay Accommodation to students who are under 18.
Section 70(a) of the Children Act 1989 provides that a person who makes any statement in this notice or gives information which he/she knows to be false or misleading shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding Level 5.

DECLARATION OF SUITABILITY

Questions (i) to (x) apply to yourself and everyone living in your home as well as friends, relatives etc who visit your home on a regular basis. We have to ask these questions to ensure our students will be safe in your home and we thank you for agreeing to answer them.

i) Has anyone ever been cautioned (on or after 6 April 2007) or convicted (at any time) of any offences against a child? *

ii) Has anyone ever been cautioned (on or after 6 April 2007) or convicted (at any time) of any violent or sexual offences against an adult? *

iii) Has anyone ever been barred from working with children by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)? *

iv) Has anyone ever been subject to any order relating to the care of children? *

v) Has anyone ever been refused registration or had registration cancelled in relation to childcare or a children’s home or been disqualified from private fostering? *

vi) Has anyone ever been found to have committed an offence overseas which would constitute an offence regarding disqualification under the 2009 Regulations if it had been done in any part of the United Kingdom ? *

vi) Has anyone ever been found not guilty of a relevant offence by reason of insanity or disability? *

vii) Has anyone ever had a child removed from their care by the order of the Court? *

viii) Has anyone ever had probation imposed on them at any time? *

ix) Has anyone ever been disqualified from acting as a foster parent? *

x) Has anyone ever been proven negligent whilst supervising under 18’s on activities/courses organised by another organisation? *

WHY WE ASK YOU FOR THIS INFORMATION:
We need to collect this information so that we can assess your application to become a homestay provider for students and visiting tutors. We will keep this information safe, we will not share it with others outside our company, unless you ask us to or we are required to by law, and we will store it only for as long as is necessary for legal or regulatory reasons or for legitimate organisational purposes.

WHERE WILL WE STORE THIS INFORMATION:
Some or all of this information will exist in our emails and our google drive.

WHO WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THIS INFORMATION:
Our Office staff will have access to some or all of this information in order to process this before, during and after you provide homestay accommodation for our students. Teachers may have access to some of the information but only if it is necessary in order for them to help students find their way home. Students we place in your home, and their parents, will need to have some of this information so that they can find their way home and contact you if they need to.

If you cannot attach the documents we need to see, you can email these to us at the Elh office. We will need to see the originals when we visit you. If you do not have a DBS and you want to host Under18s we will need you to get a DBS certificate; we can help you do this.
