WHAT HAPPENS DURING A LIVE ONLINE LESSON?
Your teachers will meet you Live Online and will teach the lesson via a Virtual Learning Platform such as Zoom or microsoft teams. Students and teachers will meet on set days and times each week. Students will learn in real time either in a group with other students or on their own during a One2One lesson.
Students who learn live online will learn synchronously but may also have opportunities to learn asynchronously during their course.
WHAT IS SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING?
- Synchronous Learning is learning that happens in real time during a set schedule. This means that the teacher and the student/s will meet together online at the same time for the lesson. Learning will take place during these set days and times and there will be a start and finish date for the course.
- Asynchronous Learning is learning that happens during a student's own time. A student may use Moodle, an E-learning app or material that has been shared via Onedrive to study asynchronously. The student will log in using a code and study in their own time. A teacher will not be present during this time but may check the work the student has completed asynchronously and give the student feedback on what s/he has done. During asynchronous learning the student has more freedom about the schedule s/he can follow to complete the tasks s/he has been given.
Here is an example of synchronous and asynchronous learning:
