Why students choose to study with us:

English Language House,(also known as ELH), is a small, friendly and safe private language school in the very centre of Milton Keynes, a city very near London, Oxford and Cambridge but not so expensive to live in.
It is the only private language school in Milton Keynes that:
  • Holds Accreditation UK also known as British Council Accreditation.
  • Can accept students who need a short term study visa to study English at English Language House from 6 to 11 months.
  • Is an approved preparation centre for the Cambridge and Trinity Exams for Visa purposes and entry to UK University as well as the OET test for healthcare professionals
  • Is a CELTA and Delta teacher training centre
  • Is an Open Examination Centre for the Cambridge English and Trinity English exams for international students.

Our aim is to always offer our students the very best experience of living and studying English in the UK.

We are located in the very centre of the city of Milton Keynes inside the beautiful building of "The Church of Christ the Cornerstone" which is very easy to reach by coach, bus, car, and train and which is just 40 mins away from Luton Airport.
The building has a reception, a bookshop and a coffee shop on the ground floor. There are places to sit outside and inside the building, a small park to the rear of the building and lots of "pay and display" parking all around.

Our very flexible English Programmes allow students to:
  • Choose the English Programme they prefer and study either face2face in our classrooms inside our beautiful building and also live online via Zoom.
  • Study in small groups or one2one with a teacher and, if they prefer, to join one of our e-learning courses and study without a teacher in their own time from anywhere in the world.
  • Attend English lessons offsite at their place of work when they book one of our corporate courses.
  • Join our Free classes when these are available.
  • Prepare for an exam with one of our exam preparation courses for the IELTS, the Cambridge English Key, Preliminary, First, Advanced or Proficiency, as well as the Trinity SELTs, GESE, ISE, or ESOL and the OET for medical professionals.

Our Teacher Training Programmes allow trainees to:
  • Join a CELTA or Delta Teacher Training course and gain an internationally recognised qualification to teach English to international students.

Our Examination Centre allows candidates to:
  • Book and sit one of the Cambridge English exams for international students at set times during the year. Candidates can choose from the A2 Key, A2 Key for Schools, B1 Preliminary, B1 Preliminary for Schools, B2 First, B2 First for Schools, C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency exam dates and book to sit the exam in Milton Keynes.
Our Examination Centre also allows schools with a large number of candidates to:
  • Book our peripatetic exam provision and ask us to travel to them and run the exam/s of their choice at a venue they choose, providing this meets the requirements set by Cambridge.

What our students like about ELH:

Students like the friendly, supportive atmosphere in the school.
Because we are not a very large school, ELH staff know all our students and students get to know the staff and each other. Students soon make friends and feel comfortable about practicing their English inside and outside the classroom. This helps them to improve and reach their language goals quickly.

Students can be sure of the quality of teaching and learning at ELH. All ELH staff are qualified, trained professionals and some have many years experience teaching English in the UK and abroad. Our teachers will always give students the time and attention they need to help them become better learners,  reach their full potential and achieve their English Language goals.

Students like our small class sizes. Our maximum class size is 12 students but often we will run lessons with 6 or 8 students in the class.

ELH teachers are qualified and experienced EFL professionals.
  • They all have the CELTA qualification, or equivalent, and some also have the Delta (a post graduate qualification in teaching English to Foreign students).
  • Some are also teacher trainers and teach on our CELTA and Delta courses.
  • Some are assessors for Cambridge English and some have worked as examiners for FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS exams.
You can see information about our teachers and staff here.

Students study options are very flexible.
ELH offers many different study options and students can choose what they prefer to include as part of their course.
This mean that Elh students can choose:
  • the start and finish dates of their course
  • the programme they prefer to join
  • how many weeks they want to study
  • how much they want to pay
  • how they prefer to study ie in a group with a teacher or in a private One2One lesson with a teacher or in their own time alone with a self study e-learning course

Students like the ELH lending library of graded readers.
Our ELH Lending Library has graded readers which students can borrow to improve their English while they are studying with us. These are only available if Covid rules permit. Students must not write on any of the books they borrow.

To see information about the our lending library and how it works click on the red writing.

Our students are important to us, they become our friends, and we always want to make sure that they are well looked after and happy while in the UK.

Many of our past students still contact us to tell us about their lives, their careers, or their experiences at University in the UK or abroad. We love to hear from them and we are always very proud of their successes.

Students who study with us often tell us that we are the best provider of English language courses in Milton Keynes. We are very happy to hear this and we try to make sure this is always true !!!

TESTIMONIALS

See what some of our past student think:

Our English Language STUDENTS
I attended classes at this school about 15 years ago now and I must say, that the decision to attend 15-20hrs/week at this school was the best decision that I could have ever made. All tutors were patient and friendly. They all had a very high standard of teaching and were professional at every level. Don't hesitate and sign up for one of their classes today. If you are unsure which class would be best for you, just ask them. They will be more then happy to advise you xx  ( Maria H)
Uma excelente escola de inglês. Recomendo. ( Silvar R)
OUR CORPORATE CLIENTS
"The support overall was very professional and clear. After two weeks I saw progress in listening, writing and vocabulary. Thanks to the ELH team for the outstanding support"
Peter, MD.
(Corporate Client- attended intensive course at ELH in 2017)
OUR CELTA AND DELTA TRAINEES
I took the 4 week intensive CELTA course at English Language House in July. Although it was one of the most challenging things I have ever done, I believe it’s the best decision I ever made in developing myself professionally. English Language House provided engaging and insightful input sessions with many helpful resources. The tutors were always supportive and inspiring, which made the course very enjoyable despite the long hours of lesson planning and written assignments. The course is extremely demanding, but if you’re planning on taking the CELTA I definitely recommend doing it at English Language House. I cannot thank my tutors enough for the great experience.  (Zoe - CELTA trainee - July 2017)
