RULES AND INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING PHYSICAL CLASSROOMS AT ELH

Much has changed since Covid and we are taking steps to ensure that when we open our doors to students everyone can feel safe. English Language House will always follow the government guidelines to ensure everyone at Elh can feel safe and can carry on learning.

HOW WE COMMUNICATE

For instant messaging we create a WhatsApp group account for each student. This WhatsApp group account contains:
  • the student's name and mobile number
  • Tatiana's name and mobile number
  • the Elh Office name and mobile number

Students will use this WhatsApp group account to communicate with us if they need an immediate response.

For email communication, students email us on [email protected]

This is the email for the ELH Office which deals with all student enquiries, timetabling of lessons, changes, request etc.
Mihaela or Tatiana at the ELH office, will pick up and respond to students' emails when these are sent to

[email protected] and there will be no delay in responding and dealing with an enquiry.

Other email addresses may be used from time to time but these are for internal use only and emails sent there may not be picked up by Mihaela at the ELH office so there may often be a delay in responding if students use these.

We hope to start our face2face lessons soon. Students can join face2face now, however if there is another rise in covid infections and there is another lockdown, or if students and staff do not feel safe, we may change from face2face to fully online or blended lessons. Students who join face2face agree to continue their lessons outside face2face classes if this is required.

From September 2020 the way we offer our face2face lessons will change. The timetable of lessons will change, the days and times of lessons will change and the number of students in each classroom will change; all this is to make sure that we follow government guidelines and ensure that all our students and staff feel safe when they come to Elh.

TO ENSURE STUDENTS AND STAFF FEEL SAFE AT ELH:
  • We ask everyone to complete a location and health declaration form before they can come to ELH.
  • Students arriving into the UK from certain countries may need to self isolate for 14 days before they can start their course. Here is a list of the countries from where you can travel to the UK and may not need to self-isolate when you arrive. This list changes so please check it before you travel. If you arrive to the UK from a country that is not on this list you will need to self isolate for 14 days. After the 14 days and providing you do not have any covid symptoms, you will need to complete and sign a student location and health declaration form before you can start your course at Elh.
  • If you have symptoms you MUST NOT come to Elh and you should get tested. You can see what you need to do here.
  • While you are self-isolating or if you need to wait for the results of a covid test before you can attend face2face lessons, you can join our live online lessons.

STUDENTS WHO ARRIVE TO STUDY IN A PHYSICAL CLASSROOM AT ELH:
  • Need to wear a face mask when they arrive to study at ELH.
  • Must sit on tables and chairs placed in the classrooms accordance to social distancing rules.
  • Must maintain social distancing between themselves and other students, as well as teachers and staff in the school and inside the building

  • May need to own and use their own coursebook for their course or may be sent worksheets and study material digitally ie by email, googledrive, padlet, slack etc  which they may have to download and bring with them to class.
  • Must bring and use their own stationary and not borrow from or lend to each other.
  • May need to own and use their own
  • Must stay within their own study bubbles ie their own group of students who are studying in the same class.
  • Must arrive and leave their lessons at the correct times so that they do not come into contact with other study bubbles ie other groups of students studying in a different class
  • Students may need to use digital platforms and apps for group work, pair work, collaborative activities and homework.

Government guidance for full opening: schools
Updated 7 August 2020
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak/guidance-for-full-opening-schools

System of controls

This is the set of actions schools must take. They are grouped into ‘prevention’ and ‘response to any infection’ and are outlined in more detail in the sections below.

Prevention:
1) minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend school
2) clean hands thoroughly more often than usual
3) ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach
4) introduce enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often, using standard products such as detergents and bleach
5) minimise contact between individuals and maintain social distancing wherever possible
6) where necessary, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Numbers 1 to 4 must be in place in all schools, all the time.
Number 5 must be properly considered and schools must put in place measures that suit their particular circumstances.
Number 6 applies in specific circumstances.

Response to any infection:
7) engage with the NHS Test and Trace process
8) manage confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) amongst the school community
9) contain any outbreak by following local health protection team advice

Numbers 7 to 9 must be followed in every case where they are relevant.
