KNOW YOUR TEACHER'S QUALIFICATIONS:
Many teachers offer English language lessons to international students. Some will have one or more of the above qualifications. Others may not. Teachers who are newly qualified with to CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL level have completed an initial teacher training qualification but will usually need support from more experienced and qualified teachers and teacher trainers to develop their teaching skills. Teachers with an initial qualification are best supported by a Director of Studies and/or Academic Manager at a Language school who will ensure their lessons meet the required standards as shown in the British Council Accreditation criteria for teaching English to international students. You can see all British Council Criteria for assessement here; pages 45-75 refer to the criteria for Teaching and Learning.
The Director of Studies will monitor the teachers' progress and development and help them become better teachers. These teachers will need to get experience of teaching different types of classes and different types of learners as well as learn how to assess and monitor learner development and adapt and write materials to address their learners needs.
